Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about exploring Ķemeri's marshes and observation towers
Most of our guided walks range from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the route you choose. We've built in regular rest points every 15-20 minutes, and there are benches and shelters strategically placed along the boardwalks. If you need more frequent breaks, just let your guide know — we adjust the pace to match your comfort level.
Spring (April to May) and autumn (August to September) are peak migration periods when you'll spot the most variety — we're talking warblers, cranes, and osprey. Summer's quieter but great for nesting birds, while winter attracts different species if you don't mind the cold. Each season offers something unique from our observation towers.
Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes with good grip are ideal — the boardwalks can get slippery when wet. Walking poles and walking sticks are absolutely fine and actually quite helpful for balance. If you use a walker or cane regularly, we recommend bringing it; the boardwalks are wide enough and stable enough to accommodate most mobility aids.
The main observation tower has a gentle ramp and handrails throughout, though it does involve climbing to reach the viewing platform. We have alternative lower-level viewing points that don't require climbing if stairs aren't comfortable for you. Contact us when booking and we'll make sure we find the right spot for your needs.
Bring layers — marshes are cool and can be breezy even when it looks calm. A light rain jacket is smart year-round, and insect repellent helps in summer. We recommend bringing a water bottle and snacks, plus binoculars if you have them (though we can provide basic ones). Check the forecast a few days before, but don't cancel over a little drizzle — some of our best wildlife spotting happens in light rain.
Both work great. Small group walks (usually 4-8 people) are wonderful for meeting other nature enthusiasts and sharing the experience. If you'd prefer a private walk with just your family or close friends, we can arrange that too. Either way, the pace and route are tailored to your group's needs.
